Let their imagination take over!

What is your book about? This is a common question I am asked when someone is flipping through the pages of There Was a Zookeeper.

For a moment my mind goes back in time to the early elementary school years of my daughters. I remember writing several stories and close to one hundred poems that year. Lighthearted and heart-warming poems about childhood and family life (that I just may publish one day, too). However, There Was a Zookeeper was the one from that period that they always remembered and recited by heart.

The message is simple. It teaches little ones about how the decisions they make may affect others. If they take something that belongs to someone else without asking, what could happen next?

The message is subtle. I feel too many authors today try to incorporate adult agendas into their children’s books. I say let children be children! Let them enjoy the bright vibrant colors. Let them laugh along with adorable characters. A rhyming story that makes it easier for them to remember and recite is the icing on the cake!

What is my book about, you ask? It’s about decision-making, friendship and forgiveness. It relays a life lesson that children can take with them throughout life. But for now, let their imagination take over and simply enjoy the story!
